FAQs about the Cosmos Hub.

What is the Cosmos Hub?

The Cosmos Hub is a Layer 1 network that is the foundational chain of the Internet of Blockchains (IBC). Its goal is to foster the development of the IBC ecosystem, several interconnected blockchains that can communicate with each other without the involvement of a centralised party.

What does the Comos Hub do?

In its first years, the Cosmos Hub has been developing new technologies to improve the interoperability of the networks of the greater Cosmos Ecosystem. However, starting in Q1 2023, the Hub will also begin offering its validator set to secure new networks, increasing the pace of development within the IBC.

What are the differences between Cosmos and Polkadot?

Both projects are the leaders of the interoperability movement within the blockchain space, meaning that they envision a future where chains can communicate natively with each other without the use of centralised parties. The main difference is that Polkadot’s Relay Chain secures all the parachains in the ecosystem, while the Cosmos Hub’s approach is to have a decentralised network of sovereign chains.

How are staking rewards calculated on Cosmos?

The ATOM staking rewards result from the distribution of inflation tokens, calculated by considering multiple factors. The main driver is the number of tokens staked. The higher the percentage of tokens bonded, the lower the inflation.

What is the IBC messaging protocol?

The inter-blockchain communication protocol serves as a way for compatible chains to send messages between each other without using bridges or other interoperability solutions. It can transfer any type of data, including assets.
