A little bit of chit-chat

A controversial proposal has been rejected by the Evmos governance. The proposal aimed to register Disperze’s Liquid Staking token yEVMOS as an ERC20. Many community members hesitate to vote for the proposal since the unbonding feature in Disperze is still being completed and tested and the code is not yet open source.

Interchain MEV

ZKValidator (our org!) will be hosting an event to delve into the topic of MEV (Miner Extraction Value) on Osmosis and within the larger Cosmos context. The event will explore various aspects of MEV extraction, including differences in comparison to other networks, steps taken to mitigate MEV, and the teams that are exploring and exploiting it.

Participants will also get an in-depth look at the current state of MEV within the Cosmos network and what it means for the ecosystem as a whole. They will learn about the challenges and opportunities that come with MEV, as well as the approaches being taken by different teams and projects such as Skip Protocol, Mekatek, Informal Systems and the Osmosis Lab.

The event will also take a comparative look at MEV in the more established Ethereum landscape, and how it differs from what is happening in the Cosmos network. This will provide valuable insights for participants looking to gain a deeper understanding of the current state of MEV and what it means for the future of the Cosmos ecosystem.

Public goods for the Cosmos

After announcing they couldn’t continue building public goods due to lack of funding,  Confio posted a funding proposal in the Cosmos Hub community forum. Confio, a team responsible for the stewardship and development of several key libraries used by many developers in the Cosmos ecosystem. These libraries include CosmJS and CosmWasm. The team has a focus on expanding IBC protocols through the development of IBC-enabled contracts and training.

The proposal outlines that Confio is willing to offer support services for the success of Cosmos Hub secured consumer chains in exchange for funding support. It highlights that there are benefits for the Cosmos Hub in this proposal. Confio argues that with the upcoming software upgrade proposal to adopt Gaia v.9.0.0, which will include replicated security, the Cosmos Hub will be granting its “economic security” to consumer chains. This is seen as a form of “hard power.”

However, Confio also highlights that consumer chains will also be looking for “soft power” which includes healthy governance precedent, adequate tooling, financial support, and access to human resources. By funding Confio, the Cosmos Hub will assert its willingness to support high-quality tooling in the network, and therefore support the consumer chains that use these tools. Confio can also provide tooling and support to help promote the success of CosmWasm-enabled consumer chains, including providing technical support, prioritizing the needs of the Cosmos Hub, and integrating advanced IBC protocols.
