A DEX for Polkadot
Following the collapse of FTX, the importance of DEXs has been part of many debates across the blockchain space. Last week, Joe Petrowski uploaded to the Polkadot forum a proposal for an update on the roadmap of Statemint. The proposal asks the community to consider whether Statemint should have a DEX.
According to the proposal, the DEX will have similar capabilities as Uniswap v2. The benefits, as outlined in the text, would be the following:
Giving parachain teams and their users permissionless, decentralised access to liquidity in the Polkadot network without relying on integration with third-party custodians.
Improve security for Statemint and make “sufficient” assets more adaptable and useful.
The post has been very popular due to its importance. As a refresher, Statemint is a generic assets parachain that at present provides only deployment and transfer functionality.
BTC DeFi on Polkadot
In another push for decentralisation, Interlay is one of the latest parachains to update their roadmap to move away from centralisation. They are calling it Interlay 2.0.
They will be building a DeFi Hub for Bitcoin outside of that network. This new hub will offer borrowing, lending and trading with on/off-boarding from fiat and other blockchains. This may bring an influx of new users to Polkadot who want to be exposed to BTC outside of centralised exchanges or wrapped solutions thanks to Interlay’s iBTC.
