A little bit of chit chat

After the community approved the new grants scheme for Moonbeam a couple of weeks ago, there has been some activity already. So far, in nine days, five grant requests have been posted to the Polkassembly portal.

Now that USDT has launched on Polkadot, the community wants in. The Astar team prepared a guide on bringing USDT to Astar and other parachain.

Polkadot’s next steps

Rob Habermeier, founder of Polkadot, published an article that gives an updated vision of the current Polkadot roadmap, mentioning features that are being awaited by the community. We have summarised the blog post into the main points.

Asynchronous Backing: an upgrade to the consensus mechanism of Polkadot that will shorten parachains’ block times from 12 seconds to 5-6 seconds, increasing scalability. This is expected to launch on Kusama by the end of 2022 and will launch on Polkadot after the results and audits have been analysed.

Parathreads / Next-Generation Scheduling: parathreads, which will allow projects to launch on Polkadot without going through the slots auction process, will become available sometime between Q1 and Q2 of 2023. Next Generation Scheduling, which is currently in the R&D phase, will allow parachains and parathreads to adapt the number of consensus resources they make use of based on their requirements

XCMv3: this is an upgrade to the current Cross-Consensus Messaging that will support, among other things, bridging, e.g., external networks, improved fee payments for operations, NFTs, etc. This feature will be available by the end of 2022.

Governance v2: as introduced by Gavin Wood on Polkadot Decoded in June, both Kusama and Polkadot will have a new way of approaching government. This new system will go live in Kusama in early Q4.

Nomination Pools & Fast Unstake: The nomination pools introduce a way for small token holders to earn rewards for securing the network by staking their tokens alongside other community members. Since June, this has been active on Kusama and will be enacted on Polkadot this year after runtime upgrade 0.9.28.

Privacy on Moonbeam

You can build the first privacy dApp on Moonbeam, and we can help you achieve it.

After receiving a grant from the Moonbeam Foundation, we are launching an event series with one objective, to bring privacy to the network.

The event series will have an online workshop, and then, we will host an IRL Hackshop.

An important step for privacy on Polkadot

An important update in the Calamari Network, Manta’s sister chain on Kusama, is about to come to life this week. Runtime upgrade v3.4.0 will introduce the permissionless delegated proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, allowing any organisation to join the collator set and any $KMA holder to stake their tokens to support the network’s resilience.

Alongside the opening of the collator set, the upgrade comes with new tokenomics for KMA:

45% will be burned.

45% is sent to the treasury to fund future parachain slot auctions and community expenses like a development fund.

10% is distributed to the collator who produced this transaction’s block.

3% of total KMA circulation is given to stakers (collators & delegators) as rewards each year

Collators gain a 10% commission from their delegator’s rewards
